Hong Kong shouldn’t water down its producer responsibility scheme

The Hong Kong government recently released details about the producer responsibility scheme for single-use plastic drink containers and sought approval for a common legislative framework for the efficient management of different products. While I fully support the framework, I am disappointed by the weakness of the proposal compared to the one released in 2021.

Boost Hong Kong’s brand with green mega-events

(20 Feb 2025, SCMP) This year’s Lunar New Year markets saw around 2.3 million visitors and generated 107 tonnes of reusable waste, including bamboo, wooden pallets and paper. However, the total waste generated was not disclosed, unlike in previous years. In 2024, the markets attracted 2 million visitors and produced 244 tonnes of waste, with 110 tonnes recycled.

環保團體支持生產者責任法律框架立法 敦促政府提出明確實施日期 從速減少飲品容器廢物

飲品膠樽和紙包飲品盒生產者責任計劃（下稱計劃）將於2月24日呈交立法會環境事務委員會討論。委員會今日（2月18日）上載文件顯示，計劃並沒有訂立確實推行日期。多個環保團體認同政府就生產者責任計劃的共同法律框架進行立法，惟當局未有在文件提出計劃確實的實施日期，回收目標亦過於軟弱。我們重申政府必須從速實行有效的飲品膠樽和紙包飲品盒生產者責任計劃，把飲品容器廢物減到最少。
