Waste Hunting in the Wild - Mountain Cleanup More and more people are heading into the countryside to enjoy nature, but the amount of trash left behind has also grown. In 2023, waste collected from Hong Kong’s country parks reached nearly 2,700 tonnes—a shocking figure that highlights the mounting pressure on our natural environment. Much of this litter reflects how urban convenience habits are carried into the wild, undermining the spirit of “Leave No Trace.” Through the “Waste Hunting in the Wild” clean‑up, participants can appreciate the beauty of the trails while taking action to restore them. By collecting and analyzing the types of waste found along the paths, we uncover the stories behind these discarded items and reflect on our living culture. This hands‑on experience is both meaningful and eye‑opening, inspiring us to rethink how we interact with nature and to adopt more sustainable practices that protect Hong Kong’s countryside.
