Happy birthday to trail!-- Hong Kong Trails Day
The Green Earth has designated October 26 every year as "Hong Kong Trail Day". This day is also the "birthday" (opening day) of the MacLehose Trail, which was the first long-distance hiking trail in Hong Kong.
The first "Hong Kong Trails Day" was held in 2019, and a series of public participation activities are launched every year since then. The Green Earth aims to promote the protection and care of natural country trails and the health benefits brought by hiking. At the same time, we intend to retain the benefits that the hills bring to us by introducing Hong Kong's rich natural resources to the public and practicing ''Leaving No Trace''. |

Trail Day across the world
The "anniversary" relevant to hiking trails can be traced back to as early as 1883 when The "German Hiking Association" designated May 14, the day when the association was founded, as "National Day of Hiking".
In 1992, the American Hiking Society designated the first Saturday in June each year as "Trails Day" in the hope of encouraging the public to hike more and get in touch with nature. This day later has evolved into "International Trails Day".
In 2013, the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy also named the fourth Saturday of April each year as "Celebrate Trails Day" in the time of spring to celebrate the establishment of various trails in the United States.
