The Jockey Club “Leave No Trace” Education Programme

When in Nature
Hong Kong’s countryside is rich in natural resources and scenic beauty. The country parks attract over 12 million visitors each year. Hiking and seaside activities have become one of the best pastimes for Hong Kong residents in recent years, as people seek to use the power of nature to improve their physical and mental health.
Do in Nature’s way
Nature has its own order, where plants and trees are interconnected for life to thrive continuously. The advantage of hiking in Hong Kong is its convenience, but the disadvantage is the high density of visitors. If everyone habitually brings their convenient city lifestyle to their hiking activities, it will lead to the rapid deterioration of natural resources and scenic beauty. Therefore, hiking also has its own etiquette that we must follow. By leaving no trace, we can ensure that natural resources remain sustainable for future generations to enjoy.
The Jockey Club “Leave No Trace” Education Programme, funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, aims to provide information and practical methods for “Leave No Trace.” Through a series of public engagement activities (including publications, exhibitions, volunteer trail maintenance, etc.), the programme seeks to build knowledge and awareness of sustainable trails and sustainable landscapes. Ultimately, the programme aims to teach people how to enjoy the outdoors in a correct and environmentally friendly way, so that they can both enjoy and protect the beauty of nature.
