What is "Leave No Trace"?

Living in cities for too long, we may unconsciously bring urban-centric mindsets and lifestyles into the wilderness, causing harm to nature. We often overlook that hiking and outdoor activities come with their own etiquette — a set of “nature’s customs” to follow.

The “Jockey Club Leave No Trace Education Programme”, initiated by The Green Earth and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, aims to promote the principles of “Leave No Trace” (LNT). This webpage seeks to raise public awareness on minimizing the environmental impact of outdoor activities, ensuring natural resources remain resilient and can be sustainably shared across generations.

About the programme

Intensive usage is a challenge faced by Hong Kong’s trails. The trails that lead people to nature will deteriorate if heavily used by visitors.

While catering to recreational needs, we should preserve the natural beauty of the trails for the harmonious co-existence of the natural ecosystems and local culture.
